Who I Am

My name is Olalekan Israel Efunkunle. I am a qualified dentist and dental surgeon registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). I currently practice at Purple Ice Consults Dental Clinic in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, where I provide comprehensive dental care to patients of all ages.

My career began at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where I trained and practiced before moving to Port Harcourt. At UCH, I developed a strong clinical foundation across a wide range of dental disciplines in one of Nigeria's premier teaching hospitals. From June 2023 to July 2024, I practiced at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), further broadening my experience in a high-volume tertiary care environment. Since August 2024, I have been with Purple Ice Consults Dental Clinic, continuing to deliver quality dental care in Port Harcourt.

With over three years of hands-on clinical experience across both public and private practice, I have developed expertise in preventive dentistry, restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, and minor oral surgery. I am passionate about delivering patient-centered care that combines clinical excellence with clear communication and empathy.

My Philosophy

I believe that the best dental care is proactive, not reactive. Too many patients visit the dentist only when something hurts, by which point the problem has often progressed beyond what simple, conservative treatment can address. My goal is to shift that paradigm — to help my patients understand their oral health, take ownership of their daily care, and see the dentist as a partner in their wellness rather than a last resort.

Every treatment I recommend is grounded in evidence. I stay current with the latest research and clinical guidelines, regularly attending continuing education courses and professional conferences. I believe that our patients deserve the same standard of care that is available anywhere in the world, and I work to deliver that standard right here in Port Harcourt.

Why I Write

This blog is an extension of my clinical work. I believe that oral health education should not be limited to the dental chair. Many of the dental problems I treat daily — from advanced tooth decay to severe gum disease — could have been prevented or caught earlier with better awareness.
